I absolutely adore cake plates. I mean, I am crazy about them. I don't really know why since I rarely make cake. I suppose I like having the different levels when I'm displaying seasonal decorations, candles, plants, and yes, occasionally, food. I think I've started collecting them, but I can't be sure since I don't know what the official number is to constitute a collection. I only have five. It's not because I don't want more. I'm just too cheap. And cheap is not so bad if you're clever. I am clever, and I'm here to share my clever cake plate.
Materials Needed: glass and plate from The Dollar Store, E600, misc. junk
I want to mention that the plate's groove fits exactly around the glass. How neat is that?
Cost of Project: $2
Instructions: self-explanatory
Fill with pom-poms to make a fun birthday cake plate.
Fill with fall leaves for those pumpkin muffins.
Fill with potpourri because you happen to have it.

Great idea! I love cake plates, too. I'll have to try your idea...thanks!

This is really cool!
You obviously don't have boys! Delicate little girls fingers reaching out for a muffin versus brutish boy fingers knocking the beautiful plate off the glass!! LOL!! Love the idea though. Might even try it. Probably for a girl birthday! :o)
This is REALLY clever! Just love how you can change out the insides. Shaking my head here.. one of those why didn't I think of that?!? :)

I just so happen to have a black plate from the dollar store and a pewter candlestick from a thrift store sitting on my kitchen counter to make just that ~a homemade cake stand~ and then I am planning on displaying cupcakes on it for my daughter's birthday party.
Thanks for sharing.
